The Committee on Social Theory Spring Lecture Series: Trumping Democracy: Conspiracism, Propoganda, and Scripted Violence

John Foster "Chip" Berlet is a scholar-activist specializing in the study of extreme right-wing movements in the United States. As an investigative reporter and research analyst, Berlet has written for many newspapers, journals, and anthologies. For thirty years Berlet was senior analyst at Political Research Associates while he produced Eyes Right! Challenging the Right-Wing Backlash and Right-Wong Populism in America: Too Close for Comfort (with Matthew N. Lyons), which won the Outstanding Book Award from Gustavus Myers Center for the Study of Bigotry and Human Rights in North America. This month, Routledge launches his latest book, Trumping Democracy in the United States: From Ronald Reagan to Alt-Right.

International Conversation Hour

The Writing Center is proud to host the International Conversation Hour (ICH), a weekly informal gathering of students who want to relax, converse, and learn together. Students, faculty, staff, and the Lexington community are all invited!

At ICH, we might spend the evening playing games or discussing questions, family traditions, favorite foods, holiday customs, etc., or the group may even venture out of the Writing Center for a trip to a local restaurant or nearby attraction. ICH is fun and open to all. Light refreshments are provided.

Join our "International Conversation Hour-University of Kentucky" Facebook page to receive updates and to share your ICH experiences.

In coming to choose these fields of study, Kendall shared how, “I have always been extremely intrigued by the way in which cross-cultural experiences force you out of your comfort zone and open you to new thought processes and ideas.” For Kendall, the International Studies minor has allowed her to focus her studies in the realm of international development through interdisciplinary coursework on UK’s campus and experiences abroad.
