About the Prep Program
The Peace Corps Prep is a certificate program for undergraduates that centers on one empowering question: How can you prepare yourself to be the best Peace Corps Volunteer you can be? There is no one right answer to that question, but the Peace Corps has identified four core competencies that are critical to the intercultural fieldwork Peace Corps Volunteers do:
- Sector-specific skills
Foreign language proficiency
Professional savvy and leadership
The mission of the University of Kentucky’s program is to create engaged, global citizens through instruction and applied experience, enhanced foreign language skills, increased intercultural competence, and professional and leadership development. These skills are increasingly important in an interconnected world.
Benefits of the Program
The Peace Corps Prep program is an opportunity to help equip you for the Peace Corps application process. Even if you are not interested in pursuing a career with the Peace Corps, this will prepare you for a global career focused on service, agriculture, the environment, youth development, education, business, or health.
Please note, the Peace Corps Prep program is not a major, minor or certificate at University of Kentucky, and completing the Peace Corps Prep program does not guarantee you will be accepted as a Peace Corps Volunteer. You do not need to have U.S. citizenship to participate in the Peace Corps Prep at UK program; however, you must be a U.S. citizen to serve in the Peace Corps.
