John R. Bell International Studies Scholarship

The John R. Bell International Studies Scholarship supports International Studies Majors studying abroad. This competitive award is available for fall semester, spring semester, and summer study abroad programs.  Selected applicants will be awarded up to: $1500 for a fall semester abroad, $1500 for a spring semester abroad, and $800 for a summer study abroad program.

To be eligible students must meet the following criteria:

  • Accepted or Enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences
  • Majoring in International Studies
  • Earned at least 60 credit hours
  • Have a 3.0 Cumulative GPA

Application deadlines are as follows:

  • April 1 – Fall Programs
  • October 1 – Spring Programs
  • February 1 and/or March 1 – Summer Programs

Note: preference will be given to students with unmet financial need

Students interested in being considered for the Bell Scholarship must apply for the UK Education Abroad & Exchanges Scholarship.

John R. Bell Scholarship for Study in Germany

  • $4,200 for a single student
  • Spring semester at Heidelberg University or Berlin internship
  • Apply for the appropriate UK EA Scholarship deadline
  • October 1 – Spring Programs
  • February 1 and/or March 1 – Summer Programs
  • Available to International Studies majors with a background in the German language.

About John R. Bell

John R. Bell (’85) graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BA in History. In addition to studying history, Bell took German, and Studied abroad in Germany.  These experiences started John on the path toward a successful career in Foreign Intelligence.  From his work with the government, he has transitioned into private-sector work in International risk management for a Fortune 200 company.  He is thrilled to be supporting International Studies majors at Kentucky in their formative experiences abroad. https://is.as.uky.edu/passion-history-and-german-launched-john-r-bell%E…
